Small movements. Meaningful progress.
Questions to bring to an evaluation for muscle, tendon, or ligament pain following a fall, strain, or accident.

A sprain involves a ligament; a strain involves a muscle or tendon. Pain, swelling, and limited movement can overlap with other injuries, so a label alone does not establish severity. A clinician can assess the affected area and decide whether additional evaluation is needed.
Prepare a useful symptom history
Note how the injury happened, the location of discomfort, and whether you can comfortably use the area. Describe changes since the first day and share any earlier treatment instructions. Photos you took of swelling at the time can be worth discussing with your clinician.
Avoid making a new exercise or return-to-sport plan solely from internet advice. The appropriate pace depends on the injury, your examination, and the demands of the activity.
Ask about the stages of your plan
An appointment should help you understand what to do now, what progress to look for, and when to follow up. Ask about work tasks, lifting, or daily activities you need to perform. Tell the team if an instruction is difficult to manage at home so the plan can be discussed.
When the problem changes
A sudden loss of function, increasing swelling, concerning changes in sensation, or severe pain deserves prompt medical attention. Contact a clinician when symptoms worsen rather than waiting for a planned follow-up.
Local evaluation, clear next steps
